PICKING FIGHTS WITH GIANTS

Jesus lived on Earth as a man of peace who turned the other cheek, but He also walked great distances to boldly confront the most powerful people and institutions of the time.  In other words, Jesus picked fights, but only certain fights.  This is our example. Strange as it sounds, Christians SHOULD pick fights --- but only CERTAIN fights.

This sermon is about learning which fights to pick.

The message was originally delivered at New Beginnings Church for the pastoral appreciation of Rev. Errol and Jennifer Davis. The title is: PICKING FIGHTS WITH GIANTS.

THAT'S MY WORD

THAT word.  Every family and cultural group has its own.  The question from people outside of the group is, “Why can you say that word but I can’t?”  The response is usually something like, “It’s our word, not yours,” and then the debate rages.

So, let me tell you about the time that God used a word that people other than God thought God shouldn’t use.  This message is about what we do when God says: THAT’S MY WORD.

OUR GOOD TO HIS GREAT

The church needs more . . . ambition.  No, not that kind of ambition. Oh, didn’t you know that there was more than one kind.  Jesus explained in a conversation with one of the most ambitious families of the gospels.  Put down your self-help books for a moment and pick up your Bibles.

This message, originally delivered at Real Chapel CME in Guin, Alabama is: OUR GOOD TO HIS GREAT.

THE SHEPHERD’S CALL

John 10:14-30 is a new conversation on an old topic.  Months after teaching the Parable of the Good Shepherd, Jesus is back in Jerusalem talking about it again.  What is it about the Parable of the Good Shepherd that got so deep under the skin of the Temple crowd?  What is it about that parable that should speak just as powerfully to us today?

Let’s hear it again, and this time, let’s listen for: THE SHEPHERD’S CALL.
